The Hussy Chronicles

The Hussy Chronicles was created over three summers (1997-1999) as part of HERE’s American Living Room Series. In 2000 I received a NYFA fellowship and used all the funding to produce the three “episodes” as one full length. We partnered with Aaron Beall who had been running spaces on the Lower East Side (NADA, House of Candles) to do the show in ShowWorld on 42nd/8th Ave. It was the year that Giuliani created the 60/40 law - https://nypost.com/1999/12/22/rudy-to-hone-anti-porn-rule-in-wake-of-court-ruling/ which required that all “adult” stores have at least 60% of their store for non adult related material. ShowWorld offered their spaces for performance as a concession to this law. Aaron Beall “curated” the spaces. We didn’t have to pay for the space - where we rehearsed and performed. Only splitting the door with Aaron (all in cash at the time).

the show ran for a month in the Fall of 2000 - this video is of the last performance. All of these performers are my friends - we studied together and created all of our initial theatrical work together.
